Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu led a delegation to Japan between

24 November and 28 November 2014
. The delegation had both government and industry

representatives. The delegation spent two days in Osaka and Kyoto which are highly

industrialized, one day in Fukuoka which is renowned for its innovations in environmental

technologies and urban planning and two days in Tokyo which is the administrative, financial

and intellectual capital of Japan.

The five days of delegation visit were highly rewarding, by meeting over 500 companies as a part

of meetings with government, business and seminars. Response of the Government of Japan

and its agencies has been very promising.

Response from Japanese entities has reinforced the intent of Japan to have a strong and

progressive relationship with India and especially with Andhra Pradesh. Hon’ble Chief Minister

has succeeded in introducing and reinforcing the brand image of AP amongst the Japanese

community. Both governments have agreed to nurture this relationship with consistent effort as

it is in the best interest of both.

Some of the key achievements of the delegation:

 Chief Minister interacted with the Prime Minister of Japan. The PM assured support to

Andhra Pradesh. He confirmed that he will visit India in 2015 and he would be visiting

Andhra Pradesh during that visit. Chief Minister appreciated Government of Japan’s

commitment of USD 35 bn investments in India and requested to earmark a significant

share for the development of Andhra Pradesh.

 Chief Minister interacted with Ministerof Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and

Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLITT). METI has signed a

MoU with GoAP assuring promotion of direct investment by Japanese companies to

Andhra Pradesh in various fields such as urban development, infrastructure,

manufacturing, agriculture, food processing and IT. METI will also support development

of industrial parks in AP. Both ministers have committed designating one officer each for

promotion of investment into AP and opening a desk in Japan embassy in India.

 New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) has signed a

MoU with GoAP which covers sharing information and exchange opinions about smart

community activities and success stories of Japan. Both parties will identify areas of

collaboration in Japanese advanced technology including energy-related technology -

renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy storage.

 Sumitomo Corporation has signed four MoUs with the GoAP to collaborate in the areas

of

o Power generation - to develop 4 X 1000MW Srikakulam Coal Fired Power Station

o Agriculture mechanization - to assist GoAP by establishment of Model

Agriculture Machinery Center and promotion of High Japanese Culture

Technology by utilization of support from Japanese government

o Food processing – to assist GoAP in seeking foreign investments into the food

processing industries through their global network in order to enhance export

and the value of products;

o Capital city development - to assist GoAPin developing the New Capital as a

World Class Smart City. In order to materialize this, Sumitomo will assist in

securing necessary funds for such development from Japanese government

funding by JICA, NEDO and JBIC as applicable.

 Softbank has announced their intention of setting up 10,000 MW solar power project in

next 3 years. In next 3 years, they plan to invest USD 10 bn dollars in India. Soft bank

may assist AP in revolutionizing IT in the state. The Chairman, Softback has been invited

by the CM to visit AP. Chairman, Softbank confirmed that he will visit India and AP in

the next 45 days.

 JICA has proactively offered introduction of AP Investment Promotion Programme.

 Between both governments, it has been agreed to form a Japanese Working Group with

Embassy and Japanese companies.

 In a meeting with mayor of Kitakyushu, it was agreed that the Kitakyushu city will

partner with GoAP team developing the capital city and with authorities of select AP

cities in making a sustainable and smart cities.

 CM delivered a key note address at the seminar on investment opportunities in Andhra

Pradesh in association with JETRO and JIBCC at JCCI; and his address overwhelmed

the whole of audience

 There were Interactions with many private companies during the visit - like Softbank,

Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Mitsui, Sumitomo, SMBC, Yanmar, NIDEC. They have shown

interest in opportunities in AP and will be pursued by GoAP.

 Isuzu has confirmed to begin operations of their auto manufacturing unit in Sri City by

April 2015.

 Kobelco has signed a MoU with Sri City to develop 10 more acres. They have made an

investment Yen 1 bn, is expected to increase to 5 bnn more in the short term.  They have

150-200 employees. They have signed a MoU with Sri City for 10 more acres.

 To sum it up, during the visit, Hon’ble Chief Minister made an extremely positive impact

on decision makers in the political and economic arenas.
