Inspite of losses , the Indian Railways is a sustainable venture
Inspite of losses , the Indian Railways as of now continue to maintain its sustainability with operating ratio at 91%. It is, however, unfortunate that a systematic campaign has been launched by the vested interests highlighting that the Indian Railways is in bad shape. While the Railway employees never failed the system, it is the ruling dispensations, who have contributed for creation of difficult situation to the Railways. These actions of the Government would harm the Railways and the Nation in the longer run as Nation’s security may be put to jeopardy. Apart from this serious situation created by the Government, the pending demands of railway employees more particularly:
Abolition of New Pension System, Merger of DA with Pay, Grant of interim relief,
Rectification of anomalies arisen due to implementation of the recommendations of 6th CPC, MACPS aberrations, Creation of new posts for new assets/services, continue unresolved inspite of NFIR’s serious efforts to solve the issues through negotiated settlement.
The rail work force for the first time in the history is facing serious situation as I.R’s well-built system is being tampered with in the name of restructuring/reorganization, FDI and PPP. In this context, the Government is being reminded that the NFIR had conducted strike ballot in January 2014 and over 97% railway employees have supported indefinite strike through secret ballot on 65 point charter of demands. But, however, the decision was deferred because negotiations were commenced in February 2014 and thereafter General Elections were to be held and hence NFIR wanted to wait and give reasonable time to the newly elected Government. It is unfortunate that the newly elected Government is vigorously pursuing privatization of Railwa
