Dragonfly to integrate AP govt data to drive smarter decisions

To revolutionize services and systems in the new state using Big Data and predictive analytics, Dragonfly Data Factory founder and CEO Ram Pothula met Chief Minister Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu at Secretariat today and informed him that he is setting up a “data factory” in Visakhapatnam.

Mr Pothula informed the Chief Minister that the factory will have two components:
1) First model for AP government – This will take the vast quantities of static data present with government departments from birth records to land, agriculture land, output, etc. This will reduces fraud, automates manual processes, maximizes productivity of agency personnel, and drives smarter decisions by extracting actionable insights.

For instance: If data on state’s population and education is available, the company can give estimates and predictions on the infrastructure needed in the state to upgrade educational institutions, structure curriculum that increases students’ knowledge and skill set to revamp the education system and build required infrastructure to support employment to these students, etc.

2) The second model will be to attract international clients.

Mr Pothula informed the Chief Minister that the new unit will come up in an area of 600sq.ft in Visakhapatnam. This will be a software defined cloud-enabled data factory that will offer data mining, predictive analytics and insights generate using sensors and smart gadgets.

The Chief Minister asked Mr. Pothula and his team to prepare a report on the best practices in the world in the field of predictive analytics and carry out the gap analysis to understand where Andhra Pradesh stands in knowledge segment.

Stating that he aims to make the state a “knowledge hub,” the Chief Minister said that the Dragonfly team could also identify a consortium of companies and universities which can assist the company in data science and customer insights and work in tandem with the state government.

“I want to have entire government data on cloud,” he said, suggesting Dragonfly to attract players who will be interested to set up their data warehouses in Visakhapatnam.

The Chief Minister explained to Mr. Pothula that Visakhapatnam is going to be AP’s IT hub and “will be transformed from a place with Internet of Things to Internet of Everything.”

He also asked Mr Pothula to identify data mining, data science, analytics courses in coordination with universities like Stanford, MIT and others to incorporate them into curriculum in AP’s universities. This, the Chief Minister, said will build a huge talent pool of data technicians, data engineers and data scientists.

Stating that he will extend full cooperation, the Chief Minister said that he is keen on using Dragonfly’s services in energy saving through their sensor-based technologies.

Dragonfly Data Factory is also developing an operating system customizing it to industry, giving the clients complete freedom to combine their choice of tools in order to mine, manage and monetize data.
